SEATED BRONZE GANESHA INDIA 15TH CENTURY
Dimensions: Height 7 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 3,2 cm
Weight: 210 grams
A small bronze figure of Ganesha seated in lalitasana upon a lotus base, his corpulent body and rounded abdomen balanced by the elegant curve of the elephant trunk toward his left. A high conical crown and compact arrangement of the arms lend the figure a formal, iconic character, while the lotus petals create a clearly articulated sacred support.
Ganesha's combination of elephant head and human body embodies a distinctive theology of wisdom, strength and auspicious power. As remover of obstacles he is traditionally invoked before journeys, ceremonies and new undertakings, making small portable images particularly meaningful in private devotion.
The bronze's concentrated proportions and gently worn surface give it an intimate presence. Even at this scale, the crown, trunk and lotus throne create a strong silhouette that makes the deity immediately recognisable.
