SECRETAIRE WITH UPPER SECTION "AUX DAUPHINS"

Biedermeier, signed in pencil on the underside of the upper section: F.A. KLUNDER, ROSTOCK (Friedrich August Klunder, active ca. 1820/50) and dated 1842. According to historical sources, from the inventory of the Orangery of the Neustrelitz Palace.

Flamed mahogany, the inside decorated with fine lemonwood inlays, flowers, leaves and decorative frieze. Front with hinged writing surface between the top drawer and three drawers. Fitted interior with central door over a drawer, and with five drawers on each side, below a broad top drawer. Retracted top section with one door. Mother-of-pearl escutcheons. Four keys.

Provenance:
According to historic sources, formerly in the Orangery of the Neustrelitz Palace.

The underside of the top section bears a predominantly illegible pencil inscription and the signature Klünder. Wolfgang Eller describes an identical secretaire with the same dating, which comes from the Orangery of the Neustrelitz Palace. Cf. Wolfgang L. Eller. Schreibmöbel 1700–1850.
