SET OF 3 FOLK ART CARVED WOOD SAINT FIGURES 20"
Set of three vintage folk art carved and polychrome wood religious figures, reminiscent of traditional santos devotional carvings. Each elongated figure is individually hand carved with stylized facial features, simplified robes and an aged painted surface in earthy red, green, ochre, black and cream tones. The largest figure features a prominent cross-form design extending down the front of the robe; the center figure appears to hold a book or devotional object, while the smaller figure is depicted with hands together at the waist. Primitive carving, irregular surfaces, worn paint and substantial patina give the group a compelling old-world folk art character. Age, origin and individual saints are unidentified. Visible paint loss, abrasions, surface wear, checking, chips and age-related imperfections throughout, consistent with the rustic nature of the pieces. Please review all photographs carefully for condition. | | APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS: Largest approximately 20 in. H; center approximately 16 in. H; smallest approximately 12 in. H. Group spans approximately 16 in. W when arranged as photographed. | |
