SET OF FOUR VINTAGE WHISTLES Britain & Germany, c.1900–1970 An interesting collection of four vintage metal whistles illustrating over half a century of whistle design and use. The group comprises: • “Police Special” whistle – German-made export whistle for the British market, c.1925–1939, retaining its original cork pea and marked “Made in Germany”. Marketed for police, special constables, watchmen and security personnel. • “Patent” whistle – Early general-service whistle dating from the early 20th century, representative of the simple cylindrical pattern widely used in civilian and industrial settings. • Thunderer-type whistle – British sporting and general-purpose pattern, likely by or in the style of J. Hudson & Co. (Acme), Birmingham, the world’s best-known whistle manufacturer. • Scout Association whistle – Nickel-plated whistle bearing the Scout fleur-de-lis emblem, dating from the mid-20th century and intended for Scout leaders and organised youth activities. All four retain their suspension rings and display honest age-related wear, making them an attractive and varied collector’s group illustrating the evolution of practical whistles across police, scouting and civilian use.
