Note: This poster announces Seymour Boardman’s first solo exhibition in Paris at Galerie Mai in 1951. A New York artist associated with the Abstract Expressionist generation, Boardman contributed to the renewal of postwar American painting, characterized by a pursuit of gestural freedom and an emphasis on the pictorial surface. Organized at a time when artistic exchanges between Paris and New York were experiencing a new surge, this exhibition reflects the European public’s growing interest in American abstraction. The lithograph, enhanced with gouache, gives this poster a particularly refined quality, highlighting the poster’s role as a promotional tool and an extension of the artist’s aesthetic.
