SHAKESPEARE COMPLETE WORKS, 12 VOL. FRENCH LEATHER SET, PIERRE CHAMBRIN WHITE HOUSE CHEF LIBRARY
A distinguished and visually unified 12-volume leather-bound edition of Œuvres complètes de Shakespeare, presented in French translation and bearing the embossed library stamp of Pierre Chambrin, former Executive Chef of the White House. This refined European edition offers the complete dramatic works of Shakespeare—comedies, tragedies, and histories—translated and edited under the direction of Pierre Leyris and Henri Evans, among the most respected French interpreters of Shakespeare in the 20th century. The result is not merely a translation, but a scholarly and cultural re-framing of Shakespeare through the lens of French intellectual tradition. Each volume is bound in rich olive-green leather, with understated gilt titling and a clean, paneled cover design centered by a decorative monogram device. The set retains its uniform structure and visual harmony, enhanced by silk ribbon markers and high-quality paper stock. The overall presentation is one of quiet European luxury—architectural, balanced, and deeply intentional. Complete Shakespeare sets in uniform leather bindings are consistently sought after; examples with documented and physically verifiable provenance from notable cultural figures are rarely encountered in the marketplace. An exceptional opportunity to acquire a complete Shakespeare library set that transcends its literary importance, offering instead a tangible connection to a life defined by French cultural mastery, intellectual engagement, and historic proximity to the White House. A true European-style estate library artifact, equally compelling to the collector, the designer, and the connoisseur of refined interiors. Being sold by one of the owners of The Rug Life, Sabrina Chambrin Jureidini, the only Daughter of Pierre Chambrin. This book set comes with a COA signed by Sabrina, and one of Pierre’s original White House business cards. Each volume has one of Chef Chambrin’s stamps or embossed seal on an inside page. Pierre Chambrin (1947-2024) is a French-born American chef who served as the White House Executive Chef from 1989 to 1994. Chambrin was born in Paris on September 13, 1947. He received his culinary education at the Ecole des Metiers de l’alimentation, which he attended from 1961 to 1963. He moved to the United States in 1969 and opened a restaurant called Picot's Place in Massachusetts. In 1979 Chambrin took over the Washington, D.C. restaurant Maison Blanche, located near the White House. Chambrin was appointed under the presidency of George H. W. Bush to succeed Hans Raffert. He was succeeded by Walter Scheib. After leaving the White House, Chambrin became the executive chef at the Saint Louis Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The Maitres Cuisiniers de France named him "Chef of the Year" in 2008, and the Academie Culinaire de France bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award on him in 2013.
