Of rounded rectangular form, decorated with a continuous scene depicting a swarm of fireflies hovering at night over jakago (gabions), mooring posts and reeds, all embellished in gold and iro-e takamaki-e and gold togidashi maki-e with details inlaid in kirigane, the insects' glowing bodies picked out in shell, the interior of rich nashiji; signed with a typical Shiomi-style red-lacquer seal Shiomi Masanari along the cord runner; with a wood two-part manju netsuke applied in gold and slight-coloured takamaki-e with two fireflies; unsigned. 8cm x 5.5cm (3 1/8in x 2 1/8in).
