Of rounded rectangular form, the kinji ground embellished in gold and iro-e togidashi maki-e with a scene from the Kyogen play Utsubozaru, depicting on one side a man holding aloft a large utsubo (arrow case) and a sarumawashi (monkey trainer) clutching a line tied to a performing monkey on the other, the interior of matt gold, signed with a typical Shiomi-style red-lacquer seal Shiomi Masanari along the cord runner, and inscribed Hanabusa Itcho with a kao; with a walnut ojime. 7.7cm x 6.3cm (3 1/16in x 2 7/16in).
