SHOBERL, Frederic, editor (1775–1853). The World in Miniature… Russia. London: for R. Ackermann, n.d. [1822]. 4 volumes in 2, 12mo. 72 colored stipple engravings. Contemporary ribbed green cloth decorated in blind, gilt–lettered spines (upper cover in Volume I detached, front joint broken in Volume II with small tear near foot, else contents tight). FIRST EDITION of this celebrated work that was first issued in separate publications starting in 1820 with Illyria and Dalmatia and finishing in 1827 with Switzerland, forming a complete 43 volume set “to increase the store of knowledge concerning the various branches of the great family of Man, not only for adults, but the instruction and amusement of the juvenile student” (advertisement in Illyria and Dalmatia).
