SIGNED REPRODUCTION NASA SPACE HELMET
Hand-signed by astronaut Jim Lovell
USA, 1980–1990
36 × 33 × 33 cm
Apollo 13 – the seventh crewed Apollo mission – was meant to be the third mission to land on the Moon. However, the lunar landing commanded by Jim Lovell had to be aborted due to a failed oxygen tank that caused a fire two days into the mission. Thus, after circumnavigating the moon, Apollo 13 had to return to Earth, without knowing what the outcome would be. This mission has often been called a successful failure, since all crew members survived the extremely dramatic ordeal.
Jim Lovell has signed this reproduction of his original NASA helmet worn on the mission.
