SILVER AND ENAMEL CARD CASE, CIRCA 1900, PROBABLY AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN, AND AN ENAMEL DESK SEAL
The case with hinged cover depicting a fête champêtre, with engine-turned base and sides, gilt interior; the desk seal engraved 'Daisy' below a flower, the handle painted with allegorical figures within gilt cartouches, case with import marks for H C Freeman Ltd., London, 1931 case length 7.5cm, seal length 7.3cm (2)

A Private Collection of Jewels and Portrait Miniatures of Bourbon Interest

Lots 1 - 16 form part of a private collection of jewels, portrait miniatures and objects de vertu, predominantly relating to the Bourbon dynasty and dating from the 17th century onwards. Bourbon monarchs united France and part of the kingdom of Navarre in 1589, ruling both until the French Revolution of 1792. Restored briefly in 1814 and finally in 1815 after the fall of the First French Empire, the senior line of the Bourbons was overthrown again in the July Revolution of 1830. A cadet Bourbon branch, the House of Orléans, then ruled for 18 years (1830–1848), until it too was deposed.
Condition Report: Case: Some surface pitting resulting from the firing process and a few minor surface scratches visible across the enamel under 10 X magnification. A few shallow chips on lower left corner also seen. Outer engine-turned silver case with some discolouration. Silver-gilt interior with some surface wear and areas of discolouration. One side of inner rim stamped HCF Ld for H C Freeman Ltd with a partial London import mark for 1931. Inside lid with partial London import mark. Overall in good condition. Weight approx. 107.0 grams.Seal: Some spots of soot and pitting resulting from the firing process visible across the enamel handle under 10 X magnification. Silver and silver-gilt seal with some surface wear and discolouration. Overall in good condition. Weight approx. 37.0 grams.
