SILVER-GILT, HARDSTONE AND ENAMEL VANITY CASE, CARTIER, CIRCA 1928

The lid and base inset with plaques of rhodochrosite and lapis lazuli, the sides applied with a geometric pattern in black enamel, to a thumbpiece set with cabochon lapis lazuli and amethyst, opening to reveal a mirror, lipstick holder and two lidded powder compartments, measuring approximately 80 x 55 x 18mm, signed Cartier, numbered, French assay marks and maker's mark and British import hallmarks and sponsor's mark.

Signed Cartier Paris Londres New York Made in France, numbered 355, stamped with French assay marks for silver, and indistinguishable maker's mark and British import hallmarks for London, silver, date letter N for 1928 and sponsor's mark JC for Jacques Cartier. Mirror with a chip to edge and spots of tarnish. Hardstone plaques with some minor hairline cracks. Small dents to silver gilt along the edges of the case. Thumbpiece and hinges in good working order. Gross weight approximately 244.8 grams. Overall condition good.
