SIMONE PIGNONI | ARTEMESIA

[ translate ]

Property from the Collection of Stan Battat
SIMONE PIGNONI
Florence 1611 - 1698
ARTEMESIA

oil on canvas
23⅝ by 18⅝ in.; 60 by 47.5 cm.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined and is stable on its stretcher. The image reads well beneath the varnish. Some of the details have thinned with age. There is one small repair in the lower left corner in her cloak, a spot above her head just left of center, and in the background at upper right. UV light reveals a thick varnish that fluoresces unevenly and that impedes some inspection. There are some scattered fine strokes of retouching in the female's face, in her chest and shoulders, and in the dark shadows of her lower cloak. Some scattered spots of retouching are also visible in the background and in the corners. The painting can hang in its present state. Offered in an elaborately carved giltwood frame.
