(SLAVERY & ABOLITION.) Mixed run of the African Repository, a long-running colonization magazine. Approximately 570 of 722 issues (mostly ranging from quarterly to monthly), approximately 80% complete, the first two volumes complete and bound in contemporary ½ calf with moderate wear, the remainder a mix of mostly issues in original wrappers with a few partially disbound volumes; condition varies, generally minor to moderate wear, some foxing, a few years with moderate dampstaining. Not collated. Washington, 1825-1892 An extensive run of the official organ of the American Colonization Society, and a primary resource for the study of colonization. Among the illustrations are a view of the Liberian settlement at Cape Montserrado in Volume I; a hand-colored map of Liberia in Volume VI. Many issues have the original subscriber's name inscribed. The run was compiled from several different sources. Some of the early issues belonged to Governor Levi Lincoln Jr. of Massachusetts. "The oldest colonization periodical. . . .
