(SLAVERY & ABOLITION.) Receipt for the sale of an enslaved woman named Jenny to George Washington's nephew. Partly-printed Document Signed by John Tayloe and a witness. One page, 6½ x 8 inches, with docketing on verso; minor foxing and dampstaining, partial loss to lower left corner. Richmond County, VA, 1 July 1799 Colonel William Augustine Washington (1757-1810) was the son of George Washington's older half-brother Augustine. He was named as an executor in George Washington's will. By this deed, wealthy plantation owner John Tayloe III (1770-1828) deeds to Col. Washington for the sum of five shillings "a female negro slave named Jenny, to have and to hold the said slave and her increase, to him and his Heirs for ever."
