Condition Report:
Overall the condition of the wood is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is non-active worming to the wood, in particular to the back. There is some stable splitting to the wood, in particular to the back, to the book held in the proper left hand and to the drapery at the knees, and to the area around the nose and upper lip. The tip of the proper left thumb has been carved separately. The polychromy appears to have been partially refreshed. There is craquelure to the polychromy throughout. There are a few losses to the paint including to the proper left side at the hip, to the underside of the rim and to the proper right side of the hat. There are some further minor chips and some flaking to the polychromy in areas. There are some later wood supports to the underside of the sculpture.
