S.P., London, 'Britannia Rules the Waves' All British Torpedo Boat, wooden push-along projectile toy, with original box, First World War period, ciS.P., London, 'Britannia Rules the Waves'rca 1914–18, rare British wooden naval floor toy, marketed as the 'All British Torpedo Boat', probably dating from the First World War period, the painted wooden body of rounded rectangular outline mounted upon four blue-painted wooden wheels and finished in battleship grey, with black-stencilled 'TORPEDO BOAT.' title to the side, upper deck is fitted with a short cylindrical fitting, raked funnel, tall stepped mast with surviving red-painted pennant, and two circular metal fittings with slotted centres. The simplified vessel is designed to run as a push-along floor toy rather than as a floating model, its intentionally schematic form giving the appearance of a contemporary naval torpedo craft, approximately 230 mm long × 70 mm wide, original printed cardboard box, which carries an illustration of the toy and the patriotic legend.
