SPAN-AM NAMED JEWISH SILVER STAR MEDAL GROUPING
Rare Silver Star medal grouping of a Jewish American hero. Medal grouping of Gustav F. Schlachter consist of his 1932 issued named Silver Star along with three VFW delegate badges all bearing his name. Gustav enlisted at the outbreak of the Spanish American War into Co. G. 3rd Regiment National Guard PA. and was promoted to Corporal and subsequently to Quartermaster Sergeant. After the return of the 3rd Regiment he enlisted again as a Private of Co. F. 3rd Infantry Regiment and remained there until August 17th 1899 when he was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant. During his time is service he received a serious wound on April 15th 1900 at Patonongan while serving with Co. F. 11th Infantry as a 2nd Lt. which is where is subsequently received his Silver Star.
