Extracts from the first collected edition of Spieghel's work. "Spieghel succeeded Giulio Casserio to the chair of anatomy at the University of Padua; his name survives in the terms linea Spigelii (the linea alba on the midline aponeurosis of the abdominal muscles) and lobus caudatus hepatis Spigelii" (Norman 1987). De formatu foetu (first published in 1626) was an unfinished manuscript edited by Spieghel's son-in-law, who illustrated the 1626 edition with nine copperplates.
