Program du concert for the French S.S. La Touraine in 1894. "SS La Touraine was an ocean liner that sailed for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique from the 1890s to the 1920s making a regular run from La Havre to New York. Built in France in 1891, she was primarily employed in transatlantic service on the North Atlantic. The liner was scrapped in Dunkirk in October 1923." A prestigious ship. One of the five largest in the world at the time. During this run some of the most exalted musicians in the world gave concerts. They included opera sopranos Nellie Melba, MMe. Emma Calve, opera star tenor Jean De Reszke and others: M. de Lucia, Pol Plancon. M.C. Domenech, M. Coquelin. The program is signed several times by each performer after their performance. These autographs were obtained by a passenger whose identity is listed on the back. Interesting side note to history: "During her many years spent crisscrossing the Atlantic, Touraine, the liner mentioned in our shred of the newspaper from 1915, became involved in one adventure after another. . The best known of these is the loss of RMS Titanic. Touraine was en route from New York to Le Havre as Titanic was setting off from Ireland bound for New York. Touraine encountered pack ice and icebergs and informed Titanic of their presence by wireless. To no avail." Please view the photographs; they are part of the description.
