STANDING STONE GANESHA INDIA 12TH CENTURY
Dimensions: Height 11,8 cm Wide 6,5 cm Depth 4 cm Weight: 281 grams
A compact stone figure of Ganesha standing frontally on a simple base, the elephant-headed deity distinguished by his long descending trunk, broad ears and prominent rounded abdomen. Four arms hold or once held attributes associated with his divine functions, while a circular halo frames the head. Necklace, armlets and a short lower garment are indicated with restrained carved detail.
Ganesha is revered as the remover of obstacles and as a patron of learning, wisdom and prosperity. His images were placed at thresholds, shrines and places of worship, where his auspicious presence marked both physical and symbolic beginnings.
The modest scale gives the sculpture an intimate devotional quality. Age-related wear has softened portions of the carving, but the strong frontal silhouette and essential iconography remain immediately readable.
