STANLEY PLATOS MARTIN ROSS Black Velvet & Gold Cocktail
This dress is another great example of a Stanley Platos/Martin Ross signature"shift" dresses that they made popular in the 1980s. This is perhaps a slightly later version: it does not have shoulder pads nor any indication that they have been removed. The dress is actually two dresses in one: a tunic and an "underdress." The top dress is black velvet with a gold metallic bodice and sleeves woven in a herringbone pattern and embellished with black velvet dots. Underneath the top layer is a black silk lining with a separate zipper to which is attached a panel of the gold metallic fabric at the bottom. The gold areas of the dress are lined in nude silk chiffon, and the "underdress" is itself lined in black silk. Labeled size 4, but runs smaller in the hips than a modern size 4.

- Shoulder width is 16"
- Chest is 36" after doubling underarm width.
- Straight sides are about 34" all the way down.
- Length is 37" down center back.
