STRAND (THE) MAGAZINE AN ILLUSTRATED MONTHLY. Edited by George Newnes. London, 1896. - AA.VV.
In-4º from 1896 to 1912 (15 bound volumes). 1896 July to December; 1900; 1905 July to December; 1906 January to December, 2 vols; 1907, 2 volumes; 1908, 2 complete volumes; 1909, 2 volumes, from January to December; 1910, 1 volume from July to December; 1911, 2 vols. from January to December and 1912, 1 vol. from January to July.
First edition, illustrated, half brown leather binding.
Volume 12, from July to December 1896. Edited by George Newnes.
A richly bound collection of articles published in the magazine Stand. These articles and stories cover subjects such as science and exploration, mystery and adventure.
This edition includes chapters 12 to 21 of Rodyney Stone, a Gothic mystery novel written by Arthur Conan Doyle. This coming-of-age story explores the transition from childhood to adult life and the impact of social class on this process. With illustrations in the text.
Conan Doyle and the magazine The Strand are practically synonymous. His first contribution was the anonymous short story "A Voice of Science" (March 1891), more technical than science fiction. Although none of the Holmes stories is science fiction, perhaps with the exception of "The Adventure of the Devil's Foot" (December 1910).
Spine gilt at the foot with the words: REALE BIBLIOTECA IN MONZA (1896 volume). All the volumes have the royal arms of Queen Margherita of Italy stamped in gold, greatly enhancing this lot. Coming from the estate of Their Majesties, bearing the bookplate of Queen Elena of Italy. It still preserves a label from the famous Monza bindery: GHEZZI, which bound these volumes for the Queen.
GOOD CONDITION.
From the private library of the Kings of Italy.
