STRASBURG, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE PITCHER, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, tall semi-ovoid form with rounded rim, straight neck, and strap handle. Brushed cobalt hanging "necklace" decoration below spout, with floral decoration on one side, dropped feather decoration on rim, dashes to spout, shoulder, and handle, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Attributed to the pottery of Jacob Eberly (1830-1908) and Daniel Letcher Eberly (1859-1919), Strasburg, VA. 1877-1885. 10 7/8" H, 5" D rim.
Undamaged condition except having flake with associated bruise to rim. Firing imperfections, including kiln kiss to floral decoration, as made.
