STRASBURG, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA POLYCHROME-DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE ARTICLES, LOT OF TWO, lead-, copper-, and manganese-glazed over a slip wash, comprising an approximately one-gallon capacity wide-mouth jar with rounded rim, stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG" and a flower pot having conical form with double pie-crimped rim, punched drain hole to side of base, and attached saucer with pie-crimped rim. Jar attributed to Samuel Leonard Bell (1811-1891) and/or his sons Richard Franklin, Turner Ashby, and Charles Forrest, Strasburg, VA. Second half 19th century.
Condition: Jar having glued 3 1/4" triangular rim repair with extending hairline, exterior hairline encircling base that does not appear to go through to interior, moderate crazing; pot with extensive restoration.
Size: Jar 8 1/8" HOA, 7 7/8" D rim.
