STRONG FIREARMS MARINE SIGNAL CANNON
Fine Quality Brass Yachting Cannon on Mahogany Naval Carriage with lignum vitae wheels, marked "MANF'D. THE STRONG FIREARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A.", around an eagle. Circa 1870-1880. The wheels retain the original brass axle caps, pins and washers. The sides of the carriages retain the original through bolts and tie-down brackets, and mounted to the base of the carriage the original brass threaded rod and wheel elevator mechanism. 18" long overall, 11" tall, 10" wide. 7/8" bore. Near fine condition, small dings to top of barrel, repaired firing mechanism. PROVENANCE: Descended from Andrew L. Riker, 1868-1939 of Rikers Island, NY. Used at the Black Rock Yacht Club and The Pequot Yacht Club, Southport, CT.
