STUDIO OF GEORGE BARRET, R.A.
Dublin circa 1728 - 1784 London
AN EXTENSIVE WOODED RIVER LANDSCAPE, WITH A TRAVELLER WATERING HIS HORSE IN THE FOREGROUND AND FIGURES ON A BRIDGE BEYOND

oil on canvas
86.5 by 111.8cm., 34 by 44in.
After the prime version, signed by the artist, which was sold in London, Christie's, 19 May 2000, lot 107. Another copy of the composition was sold at Christie's, South Kensington, 10 May 2007, lot 205.

Condition Report:
The painting has a discoloured and dirty varnish overall. There are 3 small areas of minor paint loss in the lower left in the foliage below the tree, and 2 visible repairs in the sky centre right. The canvas has an old relining and there is some frame abrasion to the canvas edges. Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of the varnish and reveals fairly extensive though largely minor retouching throughout, but predominantly to the darks in the lower left. In overall fair condition.
