SUMIYOSHI HIROTSURA (1793 – 1863) Untitled Late Edo period, early 19th Century A Japanese hanging scroll painting, kakejiku, ink and colour on silk, depicting a masked performer in a Chinese-style brocade costume beneath a pine tree, inscribed Sumiyoshi Naiki Hirosada ga and sealed, 96cm high, 35cm long - NOTE: A well-respected artist within his lifetime, Hirotsura run a popular workshop. In 1856 he secured a commission from shogun Tokugawa Iesada for screens to be sent as a gift to King Willem III of the Netherlands.
