[Commemorative banner on the death of Sun Yat-Sen.] Vancouver: c.1925.
A large commemorative banner of Sun Yat-Sen, to celebrate his passing, 930 x 680 mm. The banner comprising a lithographic portrait of Sun Yat-Sen (probably as a 40 years old), mounted on silk, the silk lettered in black ink at the top, bottom and sides, the bottom describing the "words of the Nation's father," with an accompanying text below. Margins turned in to secure the banner to a board.
Provenance: This banner was found in an old gathering hall in Vancouver.
Sun Yat-Sen is often regarded as the founding father of China, founding the KMT Party in 1912, and after a period in exile, in 1919 he reorganized the KMT as the Chinese Kuomintang of China, which became the National People's Party of China, the Chinese Nationalists. Chiang Kai-Shek came to dominate the party after Sun Yat-Sen's death from 1927 to his death in Taiwan 1975. The party lost control of China to the Communist Party during the Civil War and gained control of Taiwan, offshore.
