SUZUKI TOKOKU (1846-1913)
An Inlaid Wood Netsuke of Daruma
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Seated in meditation beside an alms bowl, yawning with his teeth showing in his gaping mouth, wearing a typical voluminous robe open at his chest, one hand holding a hossu (priest's fly whisk) trailing across his back seen from behind, prayer beads dangling from his wrist, the hossu and beads of ivory, signed Tokoku with a silver inlaid seal Bairyu. 2.7cm x 3.3cm (1in x 1¼in).
