Accompagné d’un texte pour servir d’itinéraire aux artistes et aux amateurs de voyages pittoresques [..]. “À Berne Chez Les Artistes Associés [..]”, [1797], 40,[4] pp. With 12 (of 13) engraved views (incl. tissue-guards) by i.a. D. Lafond & G.L. Lory after i.a. K.L. Zehender, all in a fine CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING. Large 4to (ca. 30 x 22 cm.), late 18th-/ early 19th-cent. green half-morocco with gilt(-lettered) ribbed spine.

¶ Very rare first & only edition (printed in Basel by “Guillaume Haas, fils”) of which the French text is attributed to the Swiss author Philippe-Sirice Bridel (1757-1845) illustrated with beautiful engravings (aquatints) by i.a. the Swiss artists GABRIEL LUDWIG LORY (1763-1840) & DANIEL LAFOND (1763-1831) after designs by i.a. the Swiss artist KARL LUDWIG ZEHENDER (1751-1814) comprising views of AMSTEG near the Gotthard Pass, BRUNNEN at Lake Lucerne, BÜRGLEN, the DEVIL’S BRIDGE near Andermatt, the small port of FLÜELEN at Lake Uri, the waterfall of GIESSBACH, the mountains “GROSSER MYTHEN” & “KLEINER MYTHEN” near the town of Schwyz, LAKE BRIENZ, the valley of OBERHASLI, the waterfall of REICHENBACH, the island of SCHWANAU in Lake Lauerz & the waterfall of WANDELBACH. At the end 4 unnumb. pages with explanatory text for the plates (“Remarques Minéralogiques [..]”) by the Swiss theologian & naturalist Jakob Samuel Wyttenbach (1748-1830). ¶ Lacks 1 engraved view (no. 5, between pp. 12-13, dep. the waterfall of Dorfbach & Alpbach near Meiringen) & 1 full-p. engraving (not mentioned in the index, dep. 9 small-sized views printed on 1 leaf). A few minor imperfections (binding sl. rubbed/ worn along extremities, both covers sl. faded, a few tissue-guards sl. torn/ dam.), but nevertheless in good condition.
