Anton Hörl "The conceptual work of Saâdane Afif (1970, Vendôme, FR) is interdisciplinary. It combines visual art with texts, music and performance. In collaborations with other artists, Saâdane Afif transforms one form of art into another. He often loads for his exhibitions Artists, poets, philosophers, actors, musicians, artisans and performers comment on his works in the form of poems or song texts. As an integral part of his exhibitions, these comments are to be seen as an extension of the exhibited objects. «The Soapbox of Schiffbauplatz »insofar as Afif asked other creative artists to write a poetic text about his work, and from their input he created a text collage that an actress standing on a bronze pedestal recited. The texts are prepared in such a way that they are also set to music by composers, performed or related to Klangskul structures can be transformed. By transferring the visual to other sensory levels, it experiences new interpretations and forms. Such a cycle is genuinely demonstrated in the 2011 project "The Fairytale Recordings": it refers to earlier works by the artist, to which, among others, the authors and artists Tacita Dean, Tom Morton, Mick Peter and Lili Reynaud-Dewar contributed lyrics have that reflect the essence of the works. Based on the texts, Afif has developed a performance with the opera singer Katharina Schrade, in which all of the texts have been partly repeated and partly revised into a production. This transferred and processed text is finally spoken in a white painted porcelain vase, which is then sealed so that the verses are preserved forever. Through the metamorphosis from art to literature, music, performances, objects and posters, Saâdane Afif makes the diverse forces involved in the creation of a work visible and deliberately emphasizes the artistic authorship and the mechanisms of the art system. Most of his works therefore live from the subtle reflection on culture, civilization and the moment of the publication of art. Dominique von Burg " Packed in shipping roll
