Sabre blade with engravings, probably 18th / 19th century
An antique, single-edged sabre blade made of forged steel, presumably belonging to a military or hunting sidearm. The blade shows a slight curvature and features a wide, flat fuller running almost the entire length and ending in a spear point. The blade is decorated with etchings on both sides in the area of the forte. On one side, a central sun motif with a face and radiating flame rays (sun wheel or 'Sun in Splendour') is visible, flanked by floral vines and spiral volute patterns. The reverse side also shows a complex pattern of intertwined leaf tendrils and ornamental scroll forms, corresponding to the late Baroque or Rococo style. The tang is tapered and has a rectangular cross-section. There are no maker's marks or inscriptions in the sense of legible names present on the blade.
Total length: 70 cm.
