Biography: Sacha Sosno, real name Alexandre Joseph Sosnowsky, born July 16, 1937 in Marseille and died December 3, 2013 in Nice, is a French artist emblematic of the School of Nice, an artistic movement which emerged in the 1960s Sosno is best known for his concept of "obliteration art", where he explores absence and emptiness by sculpting space not to show, but to hide, thus forcing the viewer to imagine the missing part Artwork.

Raised in a cultured family, with a pianist mother and an engineer father, Sosno developed an interest in art very early. After spending part of his youth in Latvia, he returned to Nice where he rubbed shoulders with future members of the School of Nice, such as Arman and Yves Klein, profoundly influencing his artistic development. He studied philosophy, literature and art, which enriched his artistic practice with conceptual depth.

In the 1960s, Sosno became known for his active participation in the Nice art scene, exploring various mediums, including painting, sculpture and photography. His works are characterized by a constant questioning of visual perception and the relationship between full space and empty space. He uses varied techniques to create works where the material seems to be in constant dialogue with the invisible.

One of Sosno's major contributions to contemporary art lies in his "obliterated" sculptures, where blocks of material are removed to leave a void, thus inviting reflection on what is absent. This unique approach is part of a broader reflection on the nature of art and creation, where absence becomes as important as presence.

Among his most notable achievements are several monumental works in public space, including the famous "Tête Carrée" in Nice, a building in the shape of a human head which serves as an office for the municipal library, perfectly illustrating his innovative approach to sculpture and architecture.

Sosno left behind a rich and diverse artistic heritage, marked by a constant quest for renewal and a desire to push the traditional boundaries of art. His unique vision, where the visible and the invisible intertwine, continues to inspire and fascinate.
