Very beautiful 18th century binding in full red morocco, decorated with rich gilded decoration, all gilded edges.
Rare pirate edition; to the date of the original of "The Seasons"; masterpiece of Saint-Lambert, poet from Lorraine, who opened the doors of the French Academy to him.

The seasons are preceded by a "Preliminary Discourse" on bucolic and rural poetry and followed in volume 2 "various works" of tales (philosophical like Ziméo) , fugitive pieces, and finally oriental fables (Mahmoud, Voyage de la Mecca etc) .

Voltaire had great admiration for Saint-Lambert, and in particular for: The seasons. This descriptive poetry is not without charm and it will continue to be enjoyed in the 19th century. Saint-Lambert was also essential for the literary society of the 18th century through its presence in the salons.

Binding executed in red morocco of the period, smooth spine richly decorated with partitions decorated with small irons, piece in mosaic green morocco, double and flower lace with small framing irons on the covers, fleurons at the corners and in the center of the covers , roulettes on the cuts & chases, golden edges.
In very good shape.
Fresh interior, neat printing. the paper a little yellowed.
Guards renewed. Weakened hinge (slack lines at the ff. aiij)
