Bicknell was born in Maine, in 1855-1860 studied art at the Lowell Institute in Boston, then in n the 1860 - 1864, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Upon return to Boston established own studio, presented his work in galleries and juried exhibitions.
