Salt Glaze Stoneware Bee Sting Crock
13 x 12 inches. A salt-glazed stoneware storage crock of cylindrical form with two applied horizontal ear handles. The exterior features a hand-painted cobalt blue slip decoration on the front, consisting of a stylized number 2 at the top, signifying a two-gallon capacity, positioned above a large, abstract flourish commonly referred to as a bee sting or tornado motif. The interior of the crock is finished with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze. The underside of the base is unglazed and displays concentric wire-cut marks from the potter's wheel alongside surface wear. No maker's marks or signatures are present on the body or base. The vessel's construction includes a thickened, slightly flared rim and a prominent shoulder line above the handles.
