[ translate ]

"Our Historical Heritage", 1975. Portfolio of 11 drypoint etchings with stencil plus coloring by pochoir on Arches paper, etchings signed by Dali in pencil in the lower right corner, numbered 56/400 in pencil in the lower left corner, LA (Leon Amiel) blind stamp in lower left margin, Arches watermarks, published by Leon Amiel in Paris, etchings contained in a royal blue cloth covered portfolio with a bronze medal on the front from an original mould made by Dali at the Hotel des Monnaies de Paris, overall portfolio size with cover 26 ½" x 20 ½". Titles include "King Saul", "Joseph", "Jonah and the Whale", "King David", "The Rock", "Moses", "Elijah", "Adam and Eve", "Jeremiah", "Noah's Ark", and "King Solomon". Field 75-4.

The hand-signed etchings from "Our Historical Heritage" are Salvador Dali’s interpretation of important events and historical figures from the Torah or Old Testament. The images that Dali created for this 1975 portfolio make the artist’s tendency for religious themes, seen throughout much of his work, very apparent. The 11 original etchings are illustrated with pochoir coloring which allows for a unique variation on each print.

Condition: Overall good; etchings have slight handling creases in margins, small creases in corners, and deckled edges; some time toning and foxing to title page; slight wear to portfolio cover with scuffs and a small loss in the cloth. Some bleeding in the "Jeremiah" lithograph, pink in the upper left margin.
