Samuel John 'Lamorna' Birch RA RWS, British 1869-1955 – The House that Jack Built, c.1912; oil on canvas, signed lower left 'S Lamorna Birch' and inscibed with title on the reverse of the stretcher, 51 x 61 cm (ARR) Note: according to the label on the reverse of the frame, Austin Wormleighton, the author of 'A Painter Laureate, Lamorna Birch and his Circle', has stated that this work was probably painted at Selkirk in the Scottish borders before the Second World War, the home of Birch's patron John Roberts, a tweed manufacturer who was often known as 'Jack'.
