The story of a lonely small girl after her soldier-father had to leave for Mexico War, 1846.

Hard boards, original blind decorated cloth; gold decorated spine [spine ends and corner wear]; 4" x 6.1/2"; woodcut frontispiece with tissue guard; 208 pages + 2 woodcut plates, some soiling, very good condition.

Sarah Schoonmaker Baker (1824-1906) was a prolific author of children's books who also wrote under the names Aunt Friendly and Mrs. Woods Baker. She was born in Connecticut, but after her husband's death in 1852, she moved to Sweden.
