Sarough
Late 19th century, 208 x 137 cm, West Persia, Arak region

Its sprawling branches fill the midnight blue field where two truncated red cypresses can be made out at the sides. The field is topped by a curved arch, and the white-ground section above it is embellished with floral stems. A very fine weave, a thick brush-like pile and harmoniously coordinated colours. – Good condition, original selvedges, minimally reduced at the upper end.
