[ translate ]

Ancient Near East/Central Asia, Sasanian (Sassanian/Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A fascinating stamp seal bead of ovoid form, pierced through for suspension, and carved from a beautiful banded cream-colored chalcedony. One face is flattened and incised with a symbol of a crouching human figure with incised lines around the face. The figure holds a staff in one hand. This would have been worn on a cord around the neck or wrist and used as a personal seal by someone performing administrative duties. Size: 0.45" W x 0.8" H (1.1 cm x 2 cm); 2.3" H (5.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired before 2004

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#151415
Condition Report: Small, ancient loss from one side; this loss is ancient enough that it has been worn smooth. This does not impact the motif, which is very clear. Otherwise light wear commensurate with age. Accompanied by a modern clay rollout showing the motif.
