Sassanian Stone Stamp Seal Bead w/ Soldier

Ancient Near East/Central Asia, Sassanian (Sasanian, Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A petite stamp seal of an ovoid form, hand-carved from nearly opaque white-hued stone with faint honey yellow inclusions. A suspension hole is biconically drilled laterally through the body for suspension. Incised on the stamp face is a standing warrior wearing a skirted armor set and a chin-strapped helmet while holding a spear in one hand. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.7" L x 0.375" W (1.8 cm x 1 cm); 1.9" H (4.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
