Little Geh-Naw Mask Dan-Bassa culture, Ivory Coast First half of the 20th century. Wood. Height: 16. 5 cm; Width: 7 cm; Depth: 10 cm. This miniature mask incorporates the stylistic features of the Dan-Bassa culture: an oblong form, a pointy chin, a mouth with hemmed lips, a hairdo composed of braided and striated buns, C-shaped ears, almond eyes and a straight nose. These little masks named Geh-Naw were worn on the dancer’s forehead, on the occasion of welcoming or initiation ceremonies.
