Scarce 1969 Bob Dylan Isle of Wight Poster

[ translate ]

The Isle of Wight Festival in 1969 was the first paid appearance of Bob Dylan after his motorcycle accident some two years earlier. The Festival opened on August 29, just 11 days after the close of Woodstock. At the time, Dylan was living in Woodstock, New York and it was widely believed that he would play at the festival being held in his back yard. Rather than playing Woodstock, Dylan left for the Isle of Wight on August 15—the day the Woodstock Festival began. The 1969 Isle of Wight Festival attracted 150,000-250,000 people from all over the world and was a huge success. The festival featured performances by a mix of international artists, including Richie Havens, Joe Cocker, The Who, Moody Blues, Fat Mattress (featuring Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience), Bonzo Dog Band, Free, Family, Marsha Hunt & White Trash, Edgar Broughton, Aynsley Dunbar, Pretty Things, Battered Ornaments, Blodwyn Pig, King Crimson, Blonde on Blonde, Tom Paxton, Pentangle, Liverpool Scene, Julie Felix, Third Ear Band, Indo Jazz Fusions, Gary Farr, and finally, Bob Dylan with The Band. Isle of Wight posters come in several different designs and formats. This vertical format type, with the portrait of Bob Dylan is the scarcest.
