Scarce. A brass protractor from Imperial Russia, made in Kazan, with a hand-engraved maker’s inscription in Russian copperplate script reading “...въ Казани № 166” (“...in Kazan, No. 166”). The maker’s name is only partly legible. The spelling uses the hard sign (ъ) of pre-revolutionary orthography, which dates the piece to before the 1918 spelling reform, probably the late 19th or early 20th century. It has a semicircular graduated scale with engraved dual numbering from 0 to 180 degrees, a straight base edge and a center index notch. Signed provincial Russian scientific and drafting instruments are uncommon.
Condition: Good, age-appropriate. Even brown patina, dark spots and surface wear, and light marks along the edges. The engraving and scale remain legible.
