The Japanese porcelain industry dates from 1616 when a Korean ceramist discovered that you could use crushed stone from the Arita region to make excellent porcelain. Keeping an industry alive for 400 years does not only necessitate cherishing it, but also innovating it. For their "Colour Porcelain", Scholten & Baijings combined tradition with innovation. Scholten & Baijings created a service based on extensive research into Japanese Arita ceramics and an analysis of historical local masterpieces. This set of 2 x 5 deep plates is one of the fine results. 1 x deep light blue & white plate: 27. 5 x 3 cm in diameter 1 x deep white & green plate: 22. 5 x 3 cm in diameter 1 x deep pink plate: 18 x 2. 5 cm in diameter 1 x deep brown & red plate: 12. 5 x 2 cm in diameter 1 x deep gold plate: 8 x 1. 5 cm in diameter Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have been collaborating since 2000. Scholten studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Baijings is self-taught. After the realisation of various projects in which they touched upon the borders between autonomous and applied works, their new works put more emphasis on design within the interior. #contemporarydutchdesign
