We are grateful to Peter van den Brink for suggesting similarities between the present painting and the works of Dirk Jacobsz. (1496–1567).
The dendrochronological examination shows that the tree from which the wooden panel has been carved was cut around the year 1550. The painting has an underdrawing which shows some pentimenti.
