Schorl, Fluorapatite & Quartz Dassu, Braldu Valley, Skardu...

[ translate ]

Schorl, Fluorapatite & Quartz Dassu, Braldu Valley, Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan "Bought the specimen from a miner? in a field near Harnuchel near Gilgit. It was part of a rice bag of similar specimens. Gary Moss and I bought the bag full for $75." - Rock H. Currier "Miner" is a misleading term in most of these areas. In the spring, after the snow melts, you plant. While waiting for summer, and some kind of harvest, you herd your goats or go to the mountains after the snow has melted away, where you dig crystals until you have to go back down to harvest. Maybe you have time to go back up to hunt for more crystals later ... maybe, maybe not. Maybe the snows come early, you hunker down for the winter and then you repeat the cycle. Sometimes you find things that the foreigners will buy, either from you, or from your cousin in Peshawar, who trades in such things. The Schorl is a good one for Paki ones, but it is the Apatite that 'makes' it. The Quartz doesn't hurt, either. Overall Measurements: 3.9 x 2.8 x 2.6 inches (10.0 x 7.0 x 6.5 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #5130, acquired 1998 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
