Schumann Vase. 1932. Perfect cobalt and hand-painted gold. Rarity
In the early 1880s, entrepreneur K. G. Schumann (Christian Heinrich Schumann) opened a porcelain factory in Arzberg (Bavaria, Germany). After Schumann's death, his widow Christiana took over the business, with the help of her sons. In 1923, the company was converted into a corporation. After the death of Charles I Schumann, the family business passed to his son Charles II. He studied in America and founded the Schumann China Corporation in New York, which distributed porcelain in the United States. In his absence, the corporation was led by his brother Heinrich. The promising sales market in the United States closed due to the global financial crisis that began in the late 1920s, and the export efforts of Charles II Schumann came to naught. The business in Duisdorf remained in the hands of the family until 1935, where they produced products with the “blue onion” and “straw flower” decor.
